Mr. Big is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1988. The group initially comprised Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass), and Pat Torpey (drums). Known for their virtuosic musicianship and melodic rock sound, Mr. Big achieved international success in the early 1990s with a string of hit singles and albums.
One of Mr. Big's biggest breakthroughs came with their second album, "Lean into It", released in 1991. The album featured their chart-topping single "To Be with You", a power ballad written by Eric Martin and Billy Sheehan. The song's immense popularity propelled Mr. Big to stardom, topping the charts in over a dozen countries and earning them a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.
Throughout the 1990s, Mr. Big continued to release successful albums and tour extensively, solidifying their reputation as one of the era's premier rock acts. Albums like "Bump Ahead" (1993) and "Hey Man" (1996) showcased the band's dynamic blend of hard rock, pop sensibility, and instrumental prowess, earning them critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase worldwide.
In 2002, Mr. Big disbanded, with members pursuing various solo projects and collaborations. Tragically, drummer Pat Torpey passed away in 2018 after a battle with Parkinson's disease.
