Formation and Background: Mike + The Mechanics is a British rock band formed in 1985 by Mike Rutherford, the guitarist, bassist, and songwriter of the legendary band Genesis. The band was initially created as a side project while Genesis was on hiatus. Rutherford recruited vocalists Paul Carrack and Paul Young, along with keyboardist Adrian Lee and drummer Peter Van Hooke, to complete the lineup.
