Far

Far is an American alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Sacramento, California. The band's original lineup consisted of Jonah Matranga (vocals, guitar), Shaun Lopez (guitar), John Gutenberger (bass), and Chris Robyn (drums). Far emerged during the 1990s alternative rock boom, alongside bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, but carved out their own unique sound and identity within the genre.

Known for their emotive lyrics, intricate guitar work, and dynamic song structures, Far gained a loyal following with their raw and introspective approach to music. Their debut album, "Tin Cans with Strings to You", released in 1996, showcased the band's knack for blending elements of post-hardcore, emo, and indie rock, earning them critical acclaim and comparisons to bands like Fugazi and Jawbox.

Far achieved commercial success with their sophomore album, "Water & Solutions", released in 1998. Produced by rock icon Ross Robinson, the album featured a more polished and melodic sound, highlighted by singles like "Mother Mary" and "Waiting for Sunday". "Water & Solutions" received widespread praise from critics and fans alike, cementing Far's status as one of the leading bands in the alternative rock scene of the late 1990s.

Despite their growing popularity, internal tensions and label disputes led to Far's eventual breakup in 1999. Following the band's dissolution, members pursued various solo projects and collaborations, with Matranga releasing music under the moniker Onelinedrawing and Lopez forming the band The Revolution Smile. However, Far's legacy endured, with their music continuing to resonate with fans and influencing subsequent generations of alternative rock musicians.

After a lengthy hiatus, Far reunited in 2008 for a series of live shows and eventually released a new album, "At Night We Live", in 2010. The album marked a triumphant return for the band, showcasing their signature blend of emotional intensity and musical sophistication. While Far has remained relatively inactive in recent years, their impact on the alternative rock scene remains undeniable, with their music continuing to inspire and resonate with listeners around the world.
