Capone-N-Noreaga

Capone-N-Noreaga, often abbreviated as CNN, is an American hip-hop duo consisting of rappers Capone (born Kiam Akasi Holley) and N.O.R.E. (born Victor Santiago Jr.). The duo emerged from the Queensbridge housing projects in Queens, New York, during the mid-1990s and gained prominence for their gritty street narratives, vivid storytelling, and raw lyrical delivery.

Capone-N-Noreaga first gained widespread attention with their debut album, "The War Report", released in 1997. Produced by legendary hip-hop producer Marley Marl, the album is hailed as a classic of East Coast hip-hop, known for its cinematic depictions of urban life and vivid portrayals of street warfare. Tracks like "T.O.N.Y. (Top of New York)" and "L.A., L.A". (featuring Mobb Deep and Tragedy Khadafi) solidified the duo's reputation as formidable lyricists with an unapologetic street sensibility.

Despite encountering legal troubles and personal setbacks, Capone-N-Noreaga continued to release music throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their sophomore album, "The Reunion" (2000), featured collaborations with prominent artists such as Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Raekwon, further establishing the duo's presence in the hip-hop scene.

In addition to their music, Capone-N-Noreaga became known for their affiliation with the influential hip-hop collective The Lox and their involvement in the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry of the 1990s. Their confrontational lyrics and street-oriented image contributed to their status as emblematic figures of the East Coast hip-hop renaissance, earning them respect and recognition within the rap community.

Over the years, Capone-N-Noreaga have released several solo projects in addition to their collaborative work. N.O.R.E. achieved success as a solo artist with albums like "N.O.R.E". (1998) and "God's Favorite" (2002), while Capone pursued a solo career during periods when the duo was inactive. Despite occasional hiatuses and solo endeavors, Capone-N-Noreaga have periodically reunited to release new music, maintaining their status as icons of New York hip-hop culture.
